Six Years Without Dadiyata Teaching Truth, Inspiring Action
As part of the Back to School Educational Initiative (BASEI), we believe that education is not only about reading and writing it is about building informed, empowered citizens who understand their rights and responsibilities in a democratic society.
Today, BASEI joined fellow civil society organizations at a press conference organized by Amnesty International Nigeria to mark six years since the enforced disappearance of Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata) a lecturer, activist, and citizen whose voice was silenced in the dark.
π Why This Matters to Students Dadiyata was an educator. He believed in learning, questioning, and shaping a better future β the very values we pass on to the next generation. His disappearance is not just a political issue; it is an educational one. When voices like his vanish without justice, we lose teachers not just in classrooms, but in society.
πΈ We Are Teaching Children More Than ABCs As we prepare students for the new school year, we must also teach:
The value of truth and transparency
The importance of civic courage
The role of citizens in demanding justice
π Safety, justice, and dignity are essential to learning. No child can thrive in fear. No school can succeed in silence.
β BASEI stands for books but also for boldness. We stand for safe learning and a safe society.
