On December 5th, 2024, the Back to School Educational Initiative (BASEI) hosted a powerful event at WIC Islamiya School, Kaduna, as part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign.
The theme, “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape,” set the tone for a day dedicated to education, awareness, and action.

The program brought together 50 female students and 10 female teachers to talk about something incredibly important: healthy relationships, the power of consent, and the importance of respecting boundaries.
We started with a warm welcome and an introduction to the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, explaining why this movement is so crucial. A keynote session followed, where we dived deep into understanding GBV in all its forms and discussed real-life solutions. The day ended with an open and honest discussion, giving everyone a chance to share thoughts and ask questions.

For many participants, this was their first exposure to these topics. They left with practical tools to recognize and report GBV, and a stronger understanding of how to build healthier, more respectful relationships.
Mall Adam (Principal): “This is the first event of its kind in our school, and it’s a game-changer. We’ve always taught life skills, but today was about real, practical tools to protect and empower our girls.”
Zubaida Hassan (Teacher): “This program was so needed in our community. It’s just the beginning, but what a powerful start!”
This event was the first GBV awareness program in the community, and it’s just the start. By empowering young people with knowledge, we’re building a stronger, safer future for everyone.

Let’s keep the momentum going! Together, we can create a world free from gender-based violence.
