Advocacy for SSCE Fee Reinstatement: GPFN & BASEI Lead Sensitization Program in Kaduna State

On November 18, 2024, the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), in collaboration with the Back to School Educational Initiative (BASEI) and supported by Rise-Up, organized a sensitization program at Government Girls Secondary School in Kaduna Central. The program focused on advocating for the reinstatement of Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) fee payments by the Kaduna State Government, which is vital for supporting vulnerable students.

Similarly, on November 19, 2024, a sensitization program was held in Zaria, reinforcing the same advocacy message. Both events brought together key stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), and education officials.

Participants shared personal testimonies, highlighting the significance of the SSCE fee policy in improving access to education for underprivileged students. Community and religious leaders committed to grassroots advocacy, pledging to address the issue in meetings and sermons while working towards engaging the Kaduna State Assembly.

The programs emphasized collective action to ensure the sustainable reinstatement of SSCE fee payments, underscoring the importance of education as a tool for social development and equity.
