Back to School Educational Initiative (BASEI), in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria and with support from Rise Up, held a strategic and data-gathering meeting on October 12th, 2024. The meeting, attended by some parents and female students from different schools of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, focused on discussing possible solutions to the constraints preventing students from sitting for SSCE examination.

During the discussions, poverty was identified by some parents as a major barrier to education, highlighting the need for increased government support. Additionally, some parents pointed out a lack of awareness among certain families, where the importance of education, particularly for girls, is not fully understood. They emphasized the positive impact education can have on both individuals and society.

The meeting also called for advocacy to encourage the Kaduna State Government to reinstate the policy of covering Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees, as was done by the previous administration. This initiative is seen as vital to ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to complete their examination without any barrier.
